Naturally, most human irises are colorized. The only exception to this is in a condition known as Aniridia where the iris isn't visible resulting in a complete black eye sort of appearance. Even though people suffering from this condition are self-conscious about their deformity, there are others who actually want their eyes to look this way. But Aniridia is hereditary, so if you weren't born with it, there is no way in which you can get it. So how do you go about getting black irises then? You go for black sclera contacts of course. These black lenses are special contacts which are mainly used for theatrical purposes. They can darken out your eye completely if required. There are two different types of such lenses:

1. The first type is designed only the cover your iris. Some are light enough for the pupil to show. With others, the lens is so dark that the pupil and even the iris is completely hidden. In the latter type, your entire eye will look like one large pupil. This can create quite a dramatic effect. As far as your vision is concerned, there are various types of lenses available as well. Some of them even have corrective vision capabilities just like any regular contact lenses. Others are just regular lenses meant for cosmetic purposes. There are also lenses which blind your eye completely. You will not be able to see anything while wearing these lenses.

2. The second type is designed to cover your sclera, pupil and iris. These lenses are called sclera lenses. This is because they cover a major portion of your eye. They obviously are much larger than regular lenses which only cover your iris. Using these lenses you can achieve the appearance that only cartoon characters have, i.e., 100 % completely black eyes. With such eyes, you will surely stand out in a crowd.

Sclera Contacts

There you have it; you have two choices when it comes to black contact lenses. You can either go with lenses that just cover your iris or you can go with lenses that cover your entire eye. With the iris covering lenses, you can choose between corrective, blinding and regular contacts while with the eye covering lenses only offer a choice between blinding and regular. Sclera contacts will obviously allow you to create a much more dramatic effect but since they are much bigger, they are that much more difficult to insert and are quite uncomfortable to wear as well. You will not be able to wear these lenses for more than four or five hours either.

If you are looking to impress at the next party, the easiest way of doing so is with black sclera contacts. So what are you waiting for?
